BACHANALIA – THE STUDENT FESTIVAL

Every May, students of the University of Zielona Góra celebrate Bachanalia, a week-long festival full of fun and tradition. It all kicks off with a special ceremony where the president of Zielona Góra hands over the key to the city, symbolically giving students control of the city for three exciting days.

The first day features a lively parade, where students dress up in creative costumes inspired by themes like ancient Rome, the jungle, or Disney characters. The week is packed with cultural events, sports competitions, and plenty of entertainment, including a massive barbecue where students gather to relax and enjoy their time off. Evenings are filled with open-air concerts by popular Polish artists, making Bachanalia an unforgettable celebration for everyone!

WINEMAKING FESTIVAL “WINOBRANIE”

Zielona Góra hosts the biggest winemaking festival in Poland, Winobranie, every September. It’s the city’s most important event, bringing a week full of fun, music, and plenty of local wine! The streets come alive with concerts, outdoor games, sports competitions, a lively flea market, and a colorful parade led by Bacchus (Dionysus).

The festival has a long history, dating back to 1852, when the first winemakers paraded through the city to celebrate the harvest with the residents. Today, Winobranie continues to be a vibrant tradition, drawing crowds from near and far to experience the joy and excitement of this unique celebration.
